APRIL International vs Allianz Care.
APRIL International and Allianz Care both start with hospital cover and let you add outpatient care as an option, and both include evacuation in the ranges compared here. What separates them is how your medical history is underwritten: Allianz describes a moratorium route as well as full underwriting, while APRIL’s documents describe a health questionnaire only.
In brief
Which is better, APRIL International or Allianz Care?
Neither is better for everyone. It depends on what you need the policy to do.
- APRIL International suits you if you want a hospital core with repatriation assistance and the options you choose, bought from the first euro or as a top-up to the CFE (the Caisse des Français de l’Étranger). A pre-existing condition is excluded unless declared and accepted.
- Allianz Care suits you if you want to compare full underwriting with a moratorium, or pick a core plan and add outpatient cover separately. A moratorium is conditional: ongoing treatment can stop it applying.
- Neither, for now, if your current policy already covers a condition you have. A moratorium isn’t the same as acceptance, so have the new terms in writing before you cancel anything.
These are editorial selection pointers, not a personal recommendation or a quote. Your residence, medical history and written acceptance terms can change the shortlist.
APRIL International vs Allianz Care: the key differences.
What we compared: MyHealth International: Explore through Elite, and Care Base, Care Enhanced and Care Signature.
| Feature | APRIL International · sources | Allianz Care · sources |
|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | Four plan levels. Hospitalisation with basic repatriation assistance is the core; outpatient, maternity, dental, optical and comprehensive assistance are options. | Three core levels with optional outpatient and dental plans. |
| Outpatient care | Optional on every level. Explore caps it at €/US$3,000 a year; the higher levels have no overall outpatient cap but keep per-benefit limits. A 10–30% co-payment applies to outpatient only, if chosen. | Day-to-day cover is selected separately; emergency outpatient benefits in the core do not replace it. |
| Medical evacuation | Basic repatriation assistance is included and insured by Chubb. It needs the assistance provider’s prior approval, and its medical team decides the destination, timing and means of transport. | Included in the described core range, with medical necessity and insurer arrangement requirements. |
| Medical underwriting | A health questionnaire signed within three months of the start date; the insurer accepts, sets specific terms or declines. Pre-existing conditions are excluded unless declared and accepted. No moratorium route is described in the documents reviewed. | Full medical underwriting and moratorium routes are described. Under the latter, prior conditions need a continuous 24-month period after joining without symptoms or other indications, and without needing or receiving treatment, medication, a special diet or advice. |
| Treatment countries | The 2026–2027 terms cover your declared country of residence and a zone: worldwide including or excluding the US. The product page speaks of choosing countries à la carte instead, so check the written terms. Outside the zone, emergencies are covered for up to 60 consecutive days within tier limits. You must live outside your country of nationality. | The published range offers different treatment areas. Residence restrictions and local compulsory cover remain separate checks. |
| Renewal and continuity | Twelve-month membership renewed automatically unless either party terminates at the anniversary. Premiums can change with age, residence, medical inflation and the insured group’s claims. The product page says “for as long as you want”, but the terms do not establish a lifetime guarantee; check the written terms. | Automatic subject to plan availability, residence, payment and other terms. Benefits and premiums can change; new-condition protection has disclosure and cover-increase conditions. |
Ask for the membership guide, table of benefits and acceptance terms of the policy actually offered to you: general summaries don’t replace those documents.
What the differences mean for you.
Both add outpatient care to a hospital core
At APRIL, outpatient cover is optional on every level: Explore caps it at €/US$3,000 a year, and the higher levels have no overall cap but keep limits per benefit. APRIL’s plan can be bought from the first euro or as a top-up to the CFE. At Allianz, day-to-day cover is chosen separately, and the emergency outpatient benefits in the core don’t replace it. Compare doctor visits, prescriptions and the limits on the exact set-up you’re quoted.
A questionnaire, or a moratorium as well
APRIL asks for a health questionnaire signed within three months of the start date, then accepts, sets specific terms or declines; its documents describe no moratorium route. Allianz describes full medical underwriting and a moratorium. Under the moratorium, a past condition becomes eligible only after 24 months in a row after joining with no symptoms or other sign of it, and without needing or receiving treatment, medication, a special diet or advice. Ongoing treatment can stop that from happening.
Both include evacuation, so read the conditions
APRIL’s basic repatriation assistance needs the assistance provider’s prior approval, and its medical team decides where, when and how you travel. Allianz includes evacuation in its core range, with medical necessity and arrangement by the insurer as conditions. Having it doesn’t decide between them: check what triggers it and who chooses the hospital.
Look past the first year’s premium
APRIL renews the membership each year unless either side ends it at the anniversary, and premiums can change with age, residence, medical inflation and the insured group’s claims. Allianz renews automatically, subject to plan availability, residence, payment and other terms; benefits and premiums can change, and its protection for new conditions has disclosure and cover-increase conditions. Read both before you replace a policy that already covers your history.

Who each one suits.
APRIL International
Worth examining if a hospital core with repatriation assistance, plus the options you choose, fits your needs and a questionnaire-based decision suits you. Check the outpatient limit of your level and the cover area in the written terms.
APRIL International reviewAllianz Care
Worth examining if a core plan with a separately chosen outpatient option fits your household. If you’re looking at the moratorium, have its 24-month qualifying conditions checked against your history first.
