Cigna Global vs Allianz Care — an independent structural comparison

Comparison · no winner by design

Cigna’s flexibility is financial: tune deductibles and cost-shares until the premium fits. Allianz’s flexibility is medical: a moratorium door that forgives an imperfect history without a questionnaire. Most buyers need one of these far more than the other — and the ranking pages compare neither. Facts from the carriers’ own documents, read 2026-08-01 and re-checked 2026-08-16.

Every cell reads from the carriers' own pages and PDFs, checked 2026-08-01. Where their materials do not state something, the cell says so rather than filling the gap. No premiums appear because premiums are personal quotes; no verdict appears because this page ranks nothing.

The differences that decide real cases

Where the two shapes part.

One question sorts most buyers between these two. Do you have medical history you would rather not have underwritten question by question? Allianz publishes a moratorium route — no questionnaire, in exchange for 24 continuous months in which the condition stays quiet — and Cigna publishes none on its individual plan. Read the trade honestly: the moratorium does not forgive the history, it defers it — and the guide does not say what happens to a condition that speaks up in month twenty-three, which is a question to put in writing before you sign. For the applicant with a clean history this row is irrelevant; for the applicant with a complicated one, it is the whole page, and it is the row every affiliate comparison of this pair omits.

The evacuation asymmetry, again. Allianz includes doctor-requested evacuation as core. Cigna sells it as a module requiring advance approval. A Cigna build can absolutely match Allianz here — if the buyer remembers the module and understands the approval mechanics. Structure that relies on buyer diligence is not worse; it is just honest to say whose diligence it relies on.

Two meanings of flexible. Cigna’s cost-share architecture is the market’s most tunable — seven deductibles, capped cost-shares — real financial engineering for people who will actually do it. Allianz’s flexibility is geographic and medical: four exclusion zones and the moratorium door. Buyers who pick “the flexible one” without asking “flexible at what?” get the wrong kind.

Neither renewal clause is a lifetime promise. Cigna: no re-underwriting, and a decision not to renew “shall not be based on your claims history” — under a clause that opens “If we determine to renew”. Allianz: automatic renewal conditional on the plan existing, residence cover remaining possible and premiums being paid, with revisable terms and an undertaking not to add exclusions personal to you for conditions that began after inception. Both are normal market wording; neither is the guarantee people assume they hold. Buy either with your seventies in mind, and ask the renewal question in writing.

Instead of a winner

Who each shape suits.

Cigna Global

The financially disciplined buyer who will tune deductibles and cost-shares annually and wants Platinum’s paid-in-full ceiling at the top; the clean-history applicant for whom the moratorium question is moot.

The full Cigna Global profile

Allianz Care

The applicant with medical history for whom the questionnaire-free moratorium door is decisive; the buyer who wants evacuation guaranteed core rather than remembered; the Gulf/Asia resident using continent-level exclusions as the premium lever.

And if neither shape obviously fits, that is not a failure of the page — it is the finding. Which structure suits a specific household is what a review establishes, in writing, against your actual situation.

Questions this comparison answers

Does Cigna Global offer moratorium underwriting like Allianz Care?

Not on the individual plan. Cigna Global Health Options underwrites with a medical questionnaire, and the word moratorium does not appear in its policy rules (CGIC edition 02/2024, read 2026-08-16); Cigna does publish a moratorium basis on its SME group range, which is a different product. Allianz Care publishes both routes for individual cover: full medical underwriting, or a moratorium with no questionnaire, where a pre-existing condition becomes eligible after 24 continuous months without symptoms, treatment, medication or advice. For applicants with medical history buying their own cover, this is frequently the deciding structural difference between the two.

Is evacuation core with Cigna Global and Allianz Care?

It differs: Allianz Care includes medical evacuation as a core, doctor-requested benefit on every tier. Cigna Global sells evacuation as an optional module, with all evacuations requiring advance approval by the medical assistance service. A Cigna build can match Allianz on this — but only if the module is bought and the approval mechanics are understood.

Which is better, Cigna Global or Allianz Care?

We publish structures, not winners. The one-line honest version: Cigna’s edge is financial tunability and a paid-in-full top tier; Allianz’s is the moratorium door, core evacuation and continent-level exclusion zones. Which edge matters is a fact about you, not about them — which is why the answer belongs in a review against your situation.

Sources & verification

Where these facts come from.

Both columns read exclusively from the carriers' own published materials —cignaglobal.com: the USD benefits summary, 02/2025 sales brochure, customer guide and policy rules, and allianzcare.com global English and the Individual Benefit Guide — Care, valid from 1 November 2025 (DOC-IBG-CARE-EN-1125). This replaces the 2023 UK-edition guide the profile used to read from; Allianz publishes a current guide for exactly the Care range described here, and citing the older one was the sort of quiet staleness this file exists to prevent. We are advisers, not a comparison engine: how we are paid is published on our about page, and no carrier paid for, reviewed, or ranked anything here.

Allianz Care

  • Allianz Care — international healthcare plans — PRIMARY — verified 2026-08-01: tiers, maximums, areas, moratorium marketing, network claims
  • Allianz Care — Individual Benefit Guide, Care (valid from 1 November 2025, PDF) — PRIMARY — read in full 2026-08-16: the moratorium definition, the renewal clause and its no-new-personal-exclusions undertaking, the evacuation wording, dependant rules and legal entity. Supersedes the August 2023 UK-edition guide (DOC-IBG-en-UK-0823) this profile previously cited; the substance of every claim survived the change, the source date did not. Re-read in full 2026-08-16, which corrected us: we used to say Allianz was the one carrier here publishing a moratorium route. It is not. The guide lists four policy types — full medical underwriting, moratorium, and two continued-exclusion variants — and claims exclusivity nowhere, while AXA publishes a moratorium in its own words. Both definitions now sit side by side rather than one being called unique
