Cigna Global — an independent reference profile

Insurer profile · not a ranking

The individual international health business of Cigna, the US healthcare group — one of the largest IPMI writers worldwide.

The shape of the offer

What their plans are like.

A modular build: an inpatient core with outpatient, evacuation, dental and vision added as separate modules, which is where both the value and the gaps live.

We keep this section general on purpose. Plan names, limits and premiums move every year, and a page pretending otherwise would be quietly wrong within one renewal cycle. The specifics belong in your report, dated, against your situation.

The structure, dated · facts checked 2026-08-01

What their published material actually says.

Everything below was read from the carrier's own pages and documents on2026-08-01 — specifically cignaglobal.com: the USD benefits summary, 02/2025 sales brochure, customer guide and policy rules. ⚑ marks what those materials do not state. No premiums appear here because premiums are personal quotes, and no verdicts because this page ranks nothing.

Cigna Global — structural facts from the carrier's own material
StructureModular: an inpatient core with outpatient, health & wellbeing, vision & dental, and evacuation as separate bolt-on modules — which means EVACUATION IS OPTIONAL, the single most consequential line on this profile.
Area of cover / USAWorldwide or worldwide excluding the USA; out-of-area emergency hospitalisation $100k/$250k/paid-in-full by tier on non-USA cover.
UnderwritingMedical questionnaire with possible special exclusions; some declared conditions (the carrier names hypertension and type 2 diabetes) get maintenance outpatient cover. ⚑ No moratorium option published anywhere.
RenewabilityNo re-underwriting at renewal, and non-renewal cannot be claims-based — but the policy rules open the clause with “If we determine to renew”, and no lifetime guarantee is published ⚑. We quote that clause because nobody else does.
EvacuationAn optional module — and all evacuations must be approved in advance by the medical assistance service. Crisis Assistance Plus is provided via FocusPoint International.
Cost-sharingThe most granular in this set: seven deductible levels ($0–$10,000), cost-share options to 30% with out-of-pocket caps of $2,000 or $5,000, plus separate outpatient deductibles.
Waiting periodsRoutine maternity 12 months; obesity and infertility 24; dental 3/12/18 by treatment.
Network & digitalOver 2.2 million provider partnerships and 67,000 contracted pharmacies per the brochure; Teladoc-powered global telehealth; Cigna Wellbeing app.
Underwriter & regulatorCigna Global Insurance Company Limited, regulated in GUERNSEY by the GFSC — with European group entities in some markets. Worth knowing before assuming a UK or EU regulator.
Entry age⚑ Not published in the documents we read.

Where else you will see this name

One of seven in an independent benchmark.

The SIP Health Cost Index 2025 prices comparable international cover across fifty countries, and Cigna Global is one of the seven insurers it quotes — the Platinum plan, on worldwide excluding usa.

Two things that does not mean. It is not a shortlist: the index needed a consistent basket of globally operating insurers to price countries with, and its authors state twice that it does not compare the seven against one another. And it is not a verdict on price — the seven plans differ in benefits, cover area, service levels and medical network, so a lower figure is a different product rather than a better deal. What the index is genuinely useful for is the question underneath it: what a country costs.

What we check first

The questions a review asks of this paper.

Which modules were actually taken — a core-only build looks comprehensive and is not

The evacuation module's terms if you live somewhere serious cases leave (Indonesia, the Philippines)
