Cigna Global alternatives: six plans, compared.
Six other ranges, read from their own documents and set against Cigna Global on the questions a switch turns on: evacuation, day-to-day care, medical history and renewal. No ratings, no premiums.
In brief
What are the alternatives to Cigna Global?
The main alternatives to Cigna Global are the other six ranges we read: Allianz Care, Bupa Global, AXA Global Healthcare, APRIL International, Global Health (Foyer) and MSH International. Which one fits depends on what you need the policy to do, and the insurer’s own underwriting decides whether it will accept you.
- Evacuation inside the plan: Allianz Care, Bupa Global and AXA Global Healthcare list it within their plans. Cigna Global sells it as an optional module.
- Day-to-day care inside the level: Global Health (Foyer), Bupa Global and AXA Global Healthcare describe outpatient care as part of their plan levels. Cigna Global adds it as a module, although some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment.
- A medical history: Allianz Care, AXA and Global Health (Foyer) describe moratorium routes. Cigna Global’s individual documents work from medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. A moratorium does not by itself cover an ongoing condition.
These are the other ranges in our research set, not every insurer on the market, and nothing here ranks them.
These are editorial selection pointers, not a personal recommendation or a quote. Your residence, medical history and written acceptance terms can change the shortlist.

Where a switch usually turns.
Four questions that decide whether another insurer is worth a closer look. Which questions, and which three ranges to read on each, is our editorial interpretation. What each row says about a plan is that plan’s own sourced row, checked on the dates under Sources.
You want evacuation inside the plan, not as a module
Cigna Global lists international medical evacuation as an optional module. These three list it within their plans. Each row carries its own conditions, such as approval or medical necessity.
| Insurer | Evacuation |
|---|---|
| Cigna Global the plan you are comparing from | Optional International Medical Evacuation module, subject to medical assistance approval and terms. |
| Allianz Care | Included in the described core range, with medical necessity and insurer arrangement requirements. |
| Bupa Global | Listed across the five tiers; benefits remain subject to the membership guide and assistance arrangements. |
| AXA Global Healthcare | Evacuation and repatriation service is listed on all five levels, subject to policy conditions. |
You want day-to-day care inside the plan level
Cigna Global adds outpatient care as a module, although some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment. These three describe it inside their plan levels, on some levels as an upgrade.
| Insurer | Day-to-day care |
|---|---|
| Cigna Global the plan you are comparing from | Additional International Outpatient module. Some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment; read both sections. |
| Global Health (Foyer) | Included on every level: 80% up to €2,000 on Basic, up to €12,000 on Extensive, and no overall outpatient cap on Advanced and Premium. Deductibles and co-payments apply to outpatient treatment. |
| Bupa Global | Day-to-day benefits vary substantially by tier; Major Medical does not provide the same routine cover as the broader plans. |
| AXA Global Healthcare | Foundation and Standard offer optional outpatient upgrades; higher tiers have different included allowances. |
You have a medical history and want to see another route
Cigna Global’s individual documents work from medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. These three describe other routes, including moratoriums. A moratorium is not acceptance of an ongoing condition.
| Insurer | Medical history |
|---|---|
| Cigna Global the plan you are comparing from | The individual documents use medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. Do not import the underwriting options of a Cigna employer scheme. |
| Allianz Care | Full medical underwriting and moratorium routes are described. Under the latter, prior conditions need a continuous 24-month period after joining without symptoms or other indications, and without needing or receiving treatment, medication, a special diet or advice. |
| AXA Global Healthcare | AXA describes full underwriting, moratorium and transfer bases. Its retiree guidance restricts available bases from age 80; acceptance is individual. |
| Global Health (Foyer) | Two routes are described: a medical questionnaire and risk assessment to include pre-existing conditions, or a moratorium route at 55 or younger, with the insurer’s agreement. Under it, conditions from the five prior years need two continuous years without symptoms, medication, consultations or treatment. Ask whether the moratorium is offered on your application. |
Your renewal terms have changed
A new premium is a reason to compare, not by itself a reason to leave Cigna Global: a replacement policy starts its own waiting periods and exclusions, and your current one may already accept your conditions. Each insurer words renewal differently, and your own issuer’s rules are the ones that apply.
| Insurer | Renewal |
|---|---|
| Cigna Global the plan you are comparing from | The CGIC February 2024 example protects against claims-based non-renewal, subject to clause 7, while renewal is offered on stated terms. Check the rules for your issuer. |
| Bupa Global | The brochure lists automatic renewal and no cancellation based on claims history. Read the membership guide for contractual conditions and changes at renewal. |
| Allianz Care | Automatic subject to plan availability, residence, payment and other terms. Benefits and premiums can change; new-condition protection has disclosure and cover-increase conditions. |
| APRIL International | Twelve-month membership renewed automatically unless either party terminates at the anniversary. Premiums can change with age, residence, medical inflation and the insured group’s claims. The product page says “for as long as you want”, but the terms do not establish a lifetime guarantee; check the written terms. |

Sources and scope.
Every row above is read from the insurer’s own documents listed here, keeping each edition and issuing company separate. A brochure is a summary: your proposal, membership guide and acceptance terms decide the cover available to you. We have not surveyed claims service and we do not infer it from advertising. How we make the comparison.
International cover is placed on a courtage basis: the insurer pays a percentage of the premium when a policy is placed. A higher premium can mean higher remuneration; this payment model does not remove that potential conflict. Our written report sets out the reasons for a recommendation, the alternatives considered and whether keeping existing cover is appropriate. There is no fee for the review or written report, whether or not you arrange cover through us.
Expat Savvy is an advisory practice and holds no insurance licences of its own. International cover is placed through SIP Medical Family Office. Availability depends on your residence, the product and the relevant SIP entity; we check the placement route before arranging cover. How cover is placed and how we are paid.
