Allianz Care alternatives: six plans, compared.
Six other ranges, read from their own documents and set against Allianz Care on the questions a switch turns on: day-to-day care, medical history, evacuation and renewal. No ratings, no premiums.
In brief
What are the alternatives to Allianz Care?
The main alternatives to Allianz Care are the other six ranges we read: Cigna Global, Bupa Global, AXA Global Healthcare, APRIL International, Global Health (Foyer) and MSH International. Which one fits depends on what you need the policy to do, and the insurer’s own underwriting decides whether it will accept you.
- Day-to-day care built in: look at Global Health (Foyer), Bupa Global and AXA Global Healthcare, which describe outpatient care inside their plan levels. Allianz Care lists it as a separately chosen plan.
- A medical history: compare Allianz Care’s moratorium with the routes AXA and Global Health (Foyer) describe, and with Cigna Global’s medical disclosure and agreed exclusions. Only a written offer from the new insurer settles acceptance.
- Evacuation priced on its own: Cigna Global sells it as an optional module. Allianz Care includes it in the core plan.
These are the other ranges in our research set, not every insurer on the market, and nothing here ranks them.
These are editorial selection pointers, not a personal recommendation or a quote. Your residence, medical history and written acceptance terms can change the shortlist.
The six, at a glance.
The six ranges by their product names. A review reads one insurer in full; a comparison sets two side by side, row by row.

Plan names, levels and limits move every year. The specifics belong in your report, dated, against your situation.
Where a switch usually turns.
Four questions that decide whether another insurer is worth a closer look. Which questions, and which three ranges to read on each, is our editorial interpretation. What each row says about a plan is that plan’s own sourced row, checked on the dates under Sources.
You want day-to-day care inside the plan
Allianz Care lists day-to-day cover as a separately chosen plan. These three describe outpatient care inside their plan levels, on some levels as an upgrade. Read the row for the level you would buy.
| Insurer | Day-to-day care |
|---|---|
| Allianz Care the plan you are comparing from | Day-to-day cover is selected separately; emergency outpatient benefits in the core do not replace it. |
| Global Health (Foyer) | Included on every level: 80% up to €2,000 on Basic, up to €12,000 on Extensive, and no overall outpatient cap on Advanced and Premium. Deductibles and co-payments apply to outpatient treatment. |
| Bupa Global | Day-to-day benefits vary substantially by tier; Major Medical does not provide the same routine cover as the broader plans. |
| AXA Global Healthcare | Foundation and Standard offer optional outpatient upgrades; higher tiers have different included allowances. |
You have a medical history and want to see another route
Allianz Care describes full medical underwriting and a moratorium. These three describe their own routes. A moratorium is not acceptance of an ongoing condition, whichever insurer offers it.
| Insurer | Medical history |
|---|---|
| Allianz Care the plan you are comparing from | Full medical underwriting and moratorium routes are described. Under the latter, prior conditions need a continuous 24-month period after joining without symptoms or other indications, and without needing or receiving treatment, medication, a special diet or advice. |
| AXA Global Healthcare | AXA describes full underwriting, moratorium and transfer bases. Its retiree guidance restricts available bases from age 80; acceptance is individual. |
| Global Health (Foyer) | Two routes are described: a medical questionnaire and risk assessment to include pre-existing conditions, or a moratorium route at 55 or younger, with the insurer’s agreement. Under it, conditions from the five prior years need two continuous years without symptoms, medication, consultations or treatment. Ask whether the moratorium is offered on your application. |
| Cigna Global | The individual documents use medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. Do not import the underwriting options of a Cigna employer scheme. |
You want to price evacuation on its own
Allianz Care includes evacuation in the core plan. Cigna Global sells it as an optional module, and the other two include a basic form with conditions.
| Insurer | Evacuation |
|---|---|
| Allianz Care the plan you are comparing from | Included in the described core range, with medical necessity and insurer arrangement requirements. |
| Cigna Global | Optional International Medical Evacuation module, subject to medical assistance approval and terms. |
| APRIL International | Basic repatriation assistance is included and insured by Chubb. It needs the assistance provider’s prior approval, and its medical team decides the destination, timing and means of transport. |
| MSH International | Standard assistance, included with hospitalisation, covers emergency transport to the nearest facility with appropriate care and return to your country of residence. Europ Assistance decides whether, where and how; conditions treated in hospital in the six months before a request are excluded. |
Your renewal terms have changed
A new premium is a reason to compare, not by itself a reason to leave Allianz Care: a replacement policy starts its own waiting periods and exclusions, and your current one may already accept your conditions. Each insurer words renewal differently, and your own issuer’s rules are the ones that apply.
| Insurer | Renewal |
|---|---|
| Allianz Care the plan you are comparing from | Automatic subject to plan availability, residence, payment and other terms. Benefits and premiums can change; new-condition protection has disclosure and cover-increase conditions. |
| Bupa Global | The brochure lists automatic renewal and no cancellation based on claims history. Read the membership guide for contractual conditions and changes at renewal. |
| Cigna Global | The CGIC February 2024 example protects against claims-based non-renewal, subject to clause 7, while renewal is offered on stated terms. Check the rules for your issuer. |
| APRIL International | Twelve-month membership renewed automatically unless either party terminates at the anniversary. Premiums can change with age, residence, medical inflation and the insured group’s claims. The product page says “for as long as you want”, but the terms do not establish a lifetime guarantee; check the written terms. |
Allianz Care alternatives: your questions.
What are the main alternatives to Allianz Care?
Should I switch from Allianz Care when my premium rises?
Can I move from Allianz Care to another insurer with a medical condition?
Compare two.
Down to Allianz Care and one other? Each comparison sets the two plans’ documents side by side: plan structure, day-to-day care, evacuation, medical underwriting, treatment countries and renewal. Start from the selection guide if you are not yet down to two.

Sources and scope.
Every row above is read from the insurer’s own documents listed here, keeping each edition and issuing company separate. A brochure is a summary: your proposal, membership guide and acceptance terms decide the cover available to you. We have not surveyed claims service and we do not infer it from advertising. How we make the comparison.
International cover is placed on a courtage basis: the insurer pays a percentage of the premium when a policy is placed. A higher premium can mean higher remuneration; this payment model does not remove that potential conflict. Our written report sets out the reasons for a recommendation, the alternatives considered and whether keeping existing cover is appropriate. There is no fee for the review or written report, whether or not you arrange cover through us.
Expat Savvy is an advisory practice and holds no insurance licences of its own. International cover is placed through SIP Medical Family Office. Availability depends on your residence, the product and the relevant SIP entity; we check the placement route before arranging cover. How cover is placed and how we are paid.
