Global Health (Foyer) vs Cigna Global.
Global Health, the international health insurer of the Foyer group, sells its Journey plans as four renewable levels, each with outpatient care and evacuation already included. Cigna Global starts with a medical core and lets you add outpatient care, evacuation and other options as modules. So compare a finished Journey level with a complete Cigna set-up.
In brief
Which is better, Global Health (Foyer) or Cigna Global?
Neither is better for everyone. It depends on what you need the policy to do.
- Global Health (Foyer) suits you if you want outpatient care and evacuation included on every level. At 55 or younger, ask whether its moratorium route is offered to you: it needs the insurer’s agreement.
- Cigna Global suits you if you’d rather build the plan from a medical core, adding outpatient care and evacuation as modules. Price the complete combination, not the core alone.
- Neither, for now, if your current policy already accepts your medical history. A moratorium isn’t acceptance of an ongoing condition, so have the new terms in writing before you cancel anything.
These are editorial selection pointers, not a personal recommendation or a quote. Your residence, medical history and written acceptance terms can change the shortlist.
Global Health (Foyer) vs Cigna Global: the key differences.
What we compared: Journey: Basic through Premium, and Global Health Options: Silver, Gold and Platinum.
| Feature | Global Health (Foyer) · sources | Cigna Global · sources |
|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | Four renewable plan levels with different limits, deductibles and co-payment options. Journey Short is a separate 3–9 month plan that is not renewed automatically. | A core medical plan with optional benefit modules. |
| Outpatient care | Included on every level: 80% up to €2,000 on Basic, up to €12,000 on Extensive, and no overall outpatient cap on Advanced and Premium. Deductibles and co-payments apply to outpatient treatment. | Additional International Outpatient module. Some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment; read both sections. |
| Medical evacuation | Included on all four levels after written pre-approval, when the treating doctor prescribes it and it is medically necessary. Transport stays within the selected area, to a place the insurer considers suitable for treatment. | Optional International Medical Evacuation module, subject to medical assistance approval and terms. |
| Medical underwriting | Two routes are described: a medical questionnaire and risk assessment to include pre-existing conditions, or a moratorium route at 55 or younger, with the insurer’s agreement. Under it, conditions from the five prior years need two continuous years without symptoms, medication, consultations or treatment. Ask whether the moratorium is offered on your application. | The individual documents use medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. Do not import the underwriting options of a Cigna employer scheme. |
| Treatment countries | Worldwide including or excluding the USA. Without the USA, medical emergencies there are covered on trips of up to six weeks. The policy is designed for expatriates abroad for at least three months. | Select the treatment area and check residence eligibility. Emergency cover outside that area is a separate, limited benefit. |
| Renewal and continuity | Twelve months, renewed tacitly if neither party opposes renewal. Continuing after a move home needs the insurer’s approval, and cover ends after five years for temporary residents of Germany. Check the written terms. | The CGIC February 2024 example protects against claims-based non-renewal, subject to clause 7, while renewal is offered on stated terms. Check the rules for your issuer. |

What the differences mean for you.
Included on every level, or added as modules
Every Journey level includes outpatient care: 80% up to €2,000 on Basic, up to €12,000 on Extensive, and no overall outpatient cap on Advanced and Premium, with deductibles and co-payments applying. Cigna adds outpatient care through its International Outpatient module, and some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment. Compare a Journey level with the Cigna core plus the modules you’d actually buy.
Evacuation: included at Global Health, a module at Cigna
Journey includes medical evacuation on all four levels after written pre-approval, when the treating doctor prescribes it and it is medically necessary; transport stays within your selected area, to a place the insurer considers suitable. At Cigna, international medical evacuation is an optional module, subject to approval by its medical assistance service. If you might need it, check that the Cigna quote includes the module.
A moratorium has conditions, not an end date
Global Health describes two routes: a medical questionnaire and risk assessment to include pre-existing conditions, or a moratorium at 55 or younger, with the insurer’s agreement. Under it, conditions from the five years before the start need two continuous years without symptoms, medication, consultations or treatment, and a condition that isn’t reversible isn’t covered. Cigna’s individual documents use medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. Ask whether the moratorium is offered on your application.
Check the area, a move and the renewal rules
Journey covers the world with or without the USA; without it, emergencies there are covered on trips of up to six weeks. With Cigna, choose the treatment area and check residence eligibility. Journey renews tacitly if neither party opposes renewal, without listing the insurer’s grounds; continuing after a move home needs the insurer’s approval, and cover ends after five years for temporary residents of Germany. The Guernsey Cigna rules cited here are an example for that issuer only: ask both for current terms.

Who each one suits.
Global Health (Foyer)
Worth examining if a Journey level, with outpatient care and evacuation included, fits the care you expect. Check the outpatient limit of the level, and separately what would happen after a move home or to Germany.
Global Health (Foyer) reviewCigna Global
Worth examining if you want to choose outpatient, dental and evacuation cover as modules on a medical core, and set the costs you keep. Make sure the final quote includes every module you compared.
