Cigna Global vs AXA Global Healthcare.
Cigna Global starts with a medical core and lets you add outpatient care, dental and evacuation as separate modules. AXA Global Healthcare sells international health insurance as five plan levels, with outpatient upgrades on Foundation and Standard. Evacuation is an optional module at Cigna and listed on every AXA level.
In brief
Which is better, Cigna Global or AXA Global Healthcare?
Neither is better for everyone. It depends on what you need the policy to do.
- Cigna Global suits you if you want to build the plan from a medical core, adding outpatient, dental and evacuation cover as you need them. Price the complete combination, not the core alone.
- AXA Global Healthcare suits you if you’d rather pick one of five levels, with evacuation listed on all of them and an outpatient upgrade on Foundation or Standard. Lower levels have different chronic-condition limits.
- Neither, for now, if your current policy already accepts your medical history. A benefits summary doesn’t show what carries over after a switch, so have the new acceptance in writing before you cancel.
These are editorial selection pointers, not a personal recommendation or a quote. Your residence, medical history and written acceptance terms can change the shortlist.
Cigna Global vs AXA Global Healthcare: the key differences.
What we compared: Global Health Options: Silver, Gold and Platinum, and Global Health Plan: Foundation through Prestige Plus.
| Feature | Cigna Global · sources | AXA Global Healthcare · sources |
|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | A core medical plan with optional benefit modules. | Five levels, with optional upgrades as well as tier differences. |
| Outpatient care | Additional International Outpatient module. Some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment; read both sections. | Foundation and Standard offer optional outpatient upgrades; higher tiers have different included allowances. |
| Medical evacuation | Optional International Medical Evacuation module, subject to medical assistance approval and terms. | Evacuation and repatriation service is listed on all five levels, subject to policy conditions. |
| Medical underwriting | The individual documents use medical disclosure and any agreed exclusions. Do not import the underwriting options of a Cigna employer scheme. | AXA describes full underwriting, moratorium and transfer bases. Its retiree guidance restricts available bases from age 80; acceptance is individual. |
| Treatment countries | Select the treatment area and check residence eligibility. Emergency cover outside that area is a separate, limited benefit. | Check the selected worldwide/US scope and residence rules. Out-of-area emergency allowances are not full US cover. |
| Renewal and continuity | The CGIC February 2024 example protects against claims-based non-renewal, subject to clause 7, while renewal is offered on stated terms. Check the rules for your issuer. | Obtain the current policy terms and renewal quotation. A benefits summary alone does not establish continuity after a move or switch. |
Ask for the membership guide, table of benefits and acceptance terms of the policy actually offered to you: general summaries don’t replace those documents.
What the differences mean for you.
Modules or plan levels
Cigna builds a plan from a medical core plus optional modules, including an extra International Outpatient module. Some named core benefits already include outpatient treatment, so read both sections. AXA offers five levels, with optional outpatient upgrades on Foundation and Standard and different included allowances on the higher levels. Compare the full set-up you’re quoted with the routine care you expect to use.
Evacuation: an extra at Cigna, listed on every AXA level
In the documents used here, international medical evacuation is an optional Cigna module, subject to approval by its medical assistance service. AXA lists an evacuation and repatriation service on all five levels, subject to policy conditions. If you might need treatment in another country, check that the Cigna quote includes the module, then read the conditions on both.
Get the underwriting decision in writing
The Cigna individual documents use medical disclosure and any exclusions agreed with you; don’t assume the underwriting options of a Cigna employer scheme apply. AXA describes full underwriting, moratorium and transfer bases, and its retiree guidance restricts which are available from age 80. A moratorium doesn’t automatically cover an ongoing condition: your acceptance terms decide.
Check the treatment area, then the renewal rules
With Cigna, choose the treatment area and check that the plan can be issued where you live; emergency cover outside that area is a separate, limited benefit. With AXA, check the worldwide or US scope and the residence rules; out-of-area emergency allowances aren’t full US cover. For renewal, the Guernsey Cigna rules cited here are an example for that issuer only, and the AXA benefits summary doesn’t settle it: ask both for current terms.

Who each one suits.
Cigna Global
Worth examining if you want to choose outpatient, dental and evacuation cover one module at a time and set the costs you keep. Make sure the final quote includes every module you compared.
Cigna Global reviewAXA Global Healthcare
Worth examining if one AXA level, with evacuation listed and an outpatient upgrade on Foundation or Standard where needed, fits the care you expect. Compare its chronic-condition and routine-care limits before treating a lower premium as the same cover.

Cigna Global Health Options individual benefits use the February 2026 UK customer guide. The separate CGIC February 2024 Guernsey rules are a labelled renewal example, not universal Cigna terms. AXA Global Healthcare uses the individual combined summary of benefits, Foundation through Prestige Plus, and AXA’s public retiree guidance on underwriting. Cigna group and Close Care plans, employer schemes and local-market policies are outside the comparison.
