Global Health (Foyer) vs Bupa Global.

Global Health (Foyer) and Bupa Global both sell international health insurance as set plan levels, four Journey levels and five Bupa packages, and both include evacuation in the ranges compared here. The clearest documented difference is underwriting: Global Health also describes a moratorium route, while the Bupa brochure leaves pre-existing conditions to underwriting.

Your situation, your policy documents, a written recommendation

In brief

Which is better, Global Health (Foyer) or Bupa Global?

Neither is better for everyone. It depends on what you need the policy to do.

  • Global Health (Foyer) suits you if you want outpatient care included even on the lowest level, and want to look at a moratorium route: it is described for applicants aged 55 or younger and needs the insurer’s agreement.
  • Bupa Global suits you if you want to compare five set packages, then choose the level and deductible that fit your household. Major Medical doesn’t give the routine cover of the broader plans.
  • Neither, for now, if your current policy already accepts your medical history. A moratorium isn’t acceptance of an ongoing condition, so get the new terms in writing before you cancel anything.

Global Health (Foyer) vs Bupa Global: the key differences.

What we compared: Journey: Basic through Premium, and Global Health Plans: Major Medical through Ultimate.

What the differences mean for you.

  1. Routine care is part of every Journey level

Every Journey level includes outpatient care: 80% up to €2,000 on Basic, up to €12,000 on Extensive, and no overall outpatient cap on Advanced and Premium, with deductibles and co-payments applying. At Bupa, day-to-day benefits vary a lot between packages, and Major Medical doesn’t give the routine cover of the broader plans. Compare the exact level with the care you expect to use.

  2. Ask which underwriting route is open to you

Global Health describes a medical questionnaire and risk assessment to include pre-existing conditions, or a moratorium at 55 or younger, with the insurer’s agreement: conditions from the five years before the start need two continuous years without symptoms, medication, consultations or treatment, and only reversible conditions qualify. The Bupa brochure says cover for certain pre-existing conditions is subject to underwriting; it doesn’t say yours will be accepted.

  3. Both include evacuation, so read the conditions

Journey’s evacuation needs written pre-approval and a prescription from the treating doctor, and transport stays within your selected area, to a place the insurer considers suitable. Bupa lists evacuation on all five packages, subject to the membership guide and its assistance arrangements. Having it doesn’t decide between them; who decides, and where you can be taken, does.

  4. Check a move, the USA and the renewal terms

Journey covers the world with or without the USA; without it, emergencies there are covered on trips of up to six weeks. Continuing after a move home needs the insurer’s approval, and cover ends after five years for temporary residents of Germany. Bupa’s area choices vary by package: confirm the issuing company and any US or Europe restriction. Bupa’s brochure lists automatic renewal and no cancellation because of your claims history; Journey renews tacitly if neither party opposes renewal, and its conditions don’t list the insurer’s grounds.

Who each one suits.

Global Health (Foyer)

Worth examining if a Journey level, with outpatient care and evacuation included, fits your household. If you’re 55 or younger and have a medical history, ask whether the moratorium is offered on your application; check a move home or to Germany separately.

Bupa Global

Worth examining if the Bupa package you would buy already includes the routine care and treatment area you need. Check the regional version, the issuing company and the written medical acceptance.
